A Party in the Ruhrpott Area - By Stefan Keim

The man has lived in Moscow for a few years. The fact that the Ruhr area is experiencing a real winter for a change holds no terror for Fritz Pleitgen. And snow-laden low Daisy showed some mercy with the opening ceremony of RUHR.2010 on Saturday afternoon.
Even though the open air stage had to be salted again and again and the dancers of the Essen Folkwang University often touched salt while moving about, they managed to present a good choreography about the transformation of a region. Producer Gil Mehmert did not overplay the spectacular effects card but preferred to communicate an idea of the harsh everyday life here by means of drums and allusions to mining.
In a dance performance by Henrietta Horn, the dancers wore many shades of grey, which has a lot to do with the perspectives that Ruhr 2010 wants to open to its visitors. Radiant beauty is rare in this region. If you want to discover its poetry, you must pay attention to details, be able to enjoy what is angular, rough, chapped.
